The Digit-al Dozen Does Food...At The Diner... Pie!

So I know I have been missing this week for the Digit-al Dozen. It's monsoon season here in Arizona and that means my anxiety kicks into high gear. But I did get one mani out. It's a special mani, because the ladies at the Digit-al Dozen have created an amazing blog hop for you to partake!
Bon Appetite!
Welcome to the grand finale of Food Week here at the Digital Dozen. We had an idea do do something a little off the rails today for our big finish. So, Welcome to the Digital Dozen Diner. Please look through our menu and check out what our chef's have in store for you today!

As you can see, all our chef's have their own diner food specialty cooked up for today.
I have a special pie just for you! (well, not that kind of special, no magical brownies here!) When I decided to create a pie mani I thought no problem. Um, problem. Did you know that if you look on Pinterest for pie mani, or pie nails, or pie manicure, etc; you get barely anything. At one point I had no search results! I thought I'd broken Pinterest! :)
But I did it! (I did it! I can't believe I did it! - thank you Dora) I decided to create an apple pie. But you know me, I can't just create any ol' apple pie...it's gotta be a geeky apple pie!

Hee-hee! You see what I did there? I used BarryM Green Berry and Konad Black with Cheeky CH16 for the formica diner countertop. I then whipped up an Apple logo using MoYou London Geek 07 and Konad White. Attempted a decal of Pi (muwahahahaha!) using Nailways Back to Basics 123 ABC with Konad White. And mixed in a bunch of different colors of BarryM polishes (Mocha, Caramel, and Lychee - whoa! Those are so real ingredients! Nailed it! Bah!) I added a little Orly Shinning Star for some cinnamon/pie filling glisten and a dollop of BarryM Coconut for the ice cream. This pie is a little over cooked, so it's a bit more brown but it still tastes fabulous! (I wouldn't recommend eating it, seriously though, don't. Do you see how 3D-ish the pie is? So many many layers of polish).
I hope you enjoyed your meal and remember to tip your waitress. Don't forget to follow the InLinkz below if you are still hungry and check out what the rest of our kitchen staff has cooked up. And don't forget to check out Instagram account @digitaldozen for a full run through later in the day!
Please Come Again,

The Digit-al Dozen Does Childhood: Lisa Frank

Welcome to another month and another week of The Digit-al Dozen!

First off: I'm sorry I have been MIA for the last month. It's been one of those months where I just couldn't really function properly, you know? But I hope to back more often (more than just DD week!) this month! I have a review of some polish, some makeup, NCC theme, and I want to talk about my skincare regime that I hinted at a few months back. Phew! I hope to get to it all!

It's great to be back! Now onto our regularly scheduled program (because DD week is the only consistent thing about my blog! Hahahaha!)

I am a child of the 80's. Born in 1981, I lived through all the craziness that was the 80's. The slouch socks, the bangle bracelets (the band The Bangles, Walk Like an Egyptian anyone?), the Garbage Pail Kids, the best Saturday morning cartoons and after school specials. Yep, the 80's were awesome!

Nothing screams 80's more than any Lisa Frank design!

This image was my inspiration for today's mani. Totally 80's right? Like, totally!

I started off with a base color of Layla Softouch Effects 04 (Neon Pink) on my first two fingers and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls on the other two. I blobbed and squished colors: Layla Softouch Effects 04 (Neon Pink), Layla Softouch Effects 09 (Aqua Zen), Milani Totally 80s (how appropriate! didn't pay attention to the name until now!), China Glaze Papaya Punch, and China Glaze Gothic Lolita. I then stamped using Cheeky CH-11 (index finger) and Bundle Monster BM-613 (middle finger) and Konad Black (used for all nails). I colored parts of the cheetah's face using MBSW and Totally 80s. On the other two nails I stamped using Konad Q1 (remember when this was THE plate everyone wanted!). I filled in the spots using the plethora of polishes listed above. Topped it all off with HK Girl Top Coat.

So, like, what do you think? Isn't is like so fetch and awesome!? Like if you don't love it, well, gag me with a spoon because that's bogus. (You're welcome).

Don't forget to check out the other ladies and their trips down memory lane!

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents: Animals - Going to the Zoo to See Monkeys!

Have you ever had a mani that you planned out (made decals for it a week before!) and when you did all but the decal you were in love with how it was, right then and there? Just like that? That's me with today's animal prompt for the Nail Challenge Collaborative.

We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo

See all the monkeys, they're scritch-scritch scratchin'
Jumpin' around and scritch-scritch scratchin'
Hangin' by the long-tail
And we can stay all day

We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo

So, this is Barielle Panama Pina Colada. Have you ever seen a more beautiful yellow? This is two coats of lovely-ness. I created my dots using Wet N Wild Black Creme and stamped using Konad Black and Cheeky CH42.

Perfection, at least in my mind.

But then I had to add the decal, had to right? I mean it's an animal prompt but there is not animal truly depicted with my mani.

Here's the freaky monkey!

Ahhh! He is sucking my will to live! (memo to self, memo to self: remember pupils when making decals!) He's to big and too...creepy...err...ogre...what the heck...yikes! Bahahahahahaha!

So here's the mani with the monkey. Now you see why I used the monkey-less mani to start with. Wasn't going to scare people away from my blog! :) Oh and I used acrylics to create the soul-less monkey.

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents: Wallpaper - A Story Part 3

Today our couple has almost gotten all the wallpaper completely off. Thankfully the wall behind it wasn't that badly damaged. A few spots that were a little bare but nothing a little paint couldn't fix up! They were so excited, another day and their finished look would be complete!

I used acetone to remove the polish completely off two of my nails as well as half of a third one. I used BarryM Coconut, only one coat to give it a more incomplete look. I used Konad White and Emily de Molly EDM03. I used BarryM Cardamon (two coats) as my base. I stamped using BarryM Cocoa and Cheeky CH33. I applied HK Girl Top Coat and then Essie Matte About You to give it a wallpaper feel.

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents: Wallpaper - A Story Part 2

Yesterday we saw what the wallpaper looked like, turtle shells, and today after much searching online our couple has decided to change the wallpaper themselves. The first step in they needed to do was to score the wallpaper so that it lightly tears the paper for easier removal. Stay tuned for tomorrow and see how they have progressed!

I used Konad White and Emily de Molly EDM03. I used BarryM Cardamon (two coats) as my base. I stamped using BarryM Cocoa and Cheeky CH33. I applied HK Girl Top Coat and then Essie Matte About You to give it a wallpaper feel.

The Nail Challange Collaborative Presents: Wallpaper - A Story

There once was a couple who bought a house, the house of their dreams. But the walls of their study looked like turtle shells! Oh how much they hated that wallpaper, who on earth would ever do something like that? In some places it was shrinking from the edges and some of the pattern had worn off.

But they vowed to redo the wallpaper and update it to something more modern, more trendy. Please follow them over the next three days as you see them strip down the old paper and put up the new!

I used BarryM Cardamon (two coats) as my base. I stamped using BarryM Cocoa and Cheeky CH33. I applied HK Girl Top Coat and then Essie Matte About You to give it a wallpaper feel.

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents: Stripes - Halloween Camo?

This is my day 2 of The Nail Challenge Collaborative presents Stripes! And today I bring you Halloween camo? This is just a few Halloween colors, splodged on, and stamped over with stripes. :)

I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls as my base (though you can't see it). I then splodged on BarryM: Plum, Mango, and Key Lime. I stamped using Konad White and Cheeky CH10. The white was too bright so I used Essence We Will Rock You Smokey Finish Top Coat. I then used Essie Matte About You as you can see in the first photo.

Meh. That's what I feel about this. Just meh. It is what it is. :)

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents: Stripes - This is Halloween!

Welcome to another Nail Challenge Collaborative theme! This month it is stripes! I've decided to try and pair it with The Digit-al Dozen's Spooky Days!

Today I went for simple and easy and not spooky at all! How could Jack Skeleton be scary? Nope, not at all. I used Barry M Plum as a base as well as OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. I stamped using Konad White and Cheeky CH10 (stripes). I used my cleanup brush with some acetone on it to sort of distress the white lines. Didn't want them too clean looking! I used a Jack decal I got from RLR Creations. Her decals are my favorite! I sealed everything with HK Girl Top Coat.

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents: Geometric - Random Shapes!

Final day of The Nail Challenge Collaborative's theme of Geometric and I give you Random Shapes that remind me of the opening credits to Saved by the Bell!

See!?

For this base I have another mystery China Glaze (probably a franken, bought at a beauty supply store< but still pretty!). I stamped using Barry M Pomegranate and Color Club Harp on It using Cheeky CH9. Harp on It is only slightly noticeable but gives it extra shimmer. I then did a quick free-hand french tip using Barry M Guava and sealed it with HK Girl Top Coat.

Any guess on the mysterious base polish for this one?

The Digit-al Dozen Does Decades Week: The Space Race of the 1950's

Day three of The Digit-al Dozen Does Decades Week, and I welcome you to the 50's! This decade had many major events. It is the start of the Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Space Race.
"The Space Race was a 20th-century (1955–1972) competition between two Cold War rivals, the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States (US), for supremacy in spaceflight capability. The technological superiority required for such supremacy was seen as necessary for national security, and symbolic of ideological superiority." -source

I wanted something crisp and symbol and love how this turned out! I used Wet n Wild Black Creme as the base. I added China Glaze Fairy Dust to serve as my stars! I used  Cheeky CH45 and BarryM Foil Effects Silver for my stamping. Essence Silver Surfer was used for the numbers and HK Girl for the top coat.

Don't forget to check out the other ladies to see what decade they visit today!

33DC Day 8: Chevrons

Seriously, I give up.

I redid this mani like 5 times, 5! And the index finger is still messed up. Oh and guess what? This is more herringbone then chevron. Well, shoot. Why didn't I pay attention to that sooner. 5 times and I didn't catch it?  Grrr!

Well heck, I put that much effort into it, you are still going to get it! :) I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (two coats) for the base of three nails and China Glaze Awaken (two coats) for the accent nail. I stamped using China Glaze Awaken and Konad White using Cheeky CH8.

Lame herringbone. Pfft! The challenge this week so far has gotten the better of me. But oh just wait until Friday! I finally have a win! :)

Don't forget to check out the others doing the challenge! Would you like to join? Then come visit: Crumpet's Nail Tarts on Facebook!

The Digit-al Dozen Does It Again: Music

Day 3 of The Digit-al Dozen Does It Again, and today is music! Have you ever had one of those days when everything you do turns to pot? Well, today was that day and is evident with this mani (except my ring finger which is looking fabulous if not short!)

I used Milani White On the Spot for my base. I stamped using Konad Black and Cheeky CH31. My piano keys don't really look like keys, not sure what they look like though. Think my nails are too short and I didn't stamp is straight enough. But oh well! I topped it all of with none other than HK Girl Top Coat!

Still really liking my ring finger! :)

Trend Week: Texture Polish

So this is a current trend that is all the rage! A ton of companies are creating them so you have a variety of choices! I love the texture polishes! This is OPI Liquid Sand Solitaire, from Bond Girls.

I used two coats and it applied gloriously and wore wonderfully! I stamped over it a zebra print! I used Konad Special Black and Cheeky CH2.

Isn't Solitaire just purdy! I think it would be a perfect wedding polish! It's a gorgeous white with glitter!

Here it is taken with a flash. I just love it!

Texture polish, what do you think? Love it? Hate it? Think it will last a while?

The Digit-al Dozen Does Animal Week - Space Unicorn

Day 2 of The Digit-al Dozen Does Animal Week. And today we have a unicorn! Uuunicorn! The Last Unicorn, anyone? Anyone? Freakiest cartoon ever! But my mani was not inspired by The Last Unicorn (Uuunicorn!) (Sorry, last time, I promise.) About a month ago I stumbled onto this crazy singer Parry Gripp and his most random songs! Space Unicorn is one of them.

"Space Unicorn, soaring through the stars, delivering the rainbows, all around the world!"

I used acrylic paints for my rainbow (but did use a coat of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls as a base). I used OPI Russian Navy Suede for the base of the other two nails (two coats). I stamped using Konad White. The unicorn is plate 63 from OMG/MoYou Nails. And the stars are Cheeky CH5. I topped it all off with HK Girl Top Coat.

Just a little humor for you! :)

31 Day Challenge 2013 Day 7: Flag

Day 7 of the 31 Day Challenge (relaxed version) is Inspired by a Flag. I chose a racing flag as my inspiration! Simple and yet so graphically fun that I love it!

I used Milani White on the Spot as my base (two coats) and stamped using Konad Black and Cheeky CH3 plate.

Ok, so yesterday I should you how I had the idea to use masking tape when I stamp. Well, I did that mani after this one (shh! sometimes I don't do them in order!). And you can see where I got the black polish on my cuticles. I used acetone and a brush to try and clean it up but it is horrible to clean up! Lesson learned! Only took a year but whatever! :)

Don't forget to check out the other ladies and their flags!

The Digit-al Dozen Does Music - Song Skittle

Day 3 of The Digit-al Dozen Does Music. And today I have a skittle that looks totally random but in all actuality, isn't. That's right! There is a rhyme and reason to my madness...sometimes. :)

This mani is a Song Skittle! Well, as close to one as I could get.

First up we have Catrice Browno Mars. So this is the one except to the song name polishes. But I had to use this polish. I mean come on, Browno Mars? It needed to be used in this themed week and in this mani! :) This is two coats and applied like a dream like every Catrice polish!

On my middle finger we have China Glaze Strawberry Fields. This made me think of Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles. Two coats.

On my ring finger we have Catrice Sing: Hey, Dirty Lilah! Which reminds me of Plain White T's Hey There Delilah. I love this polish. This is two coats and still, sadly, the silver shimmer doesn't show up as much on the nail. :( But I still love it! I also stamped a fitting image using Konad Black and Cheeky plate CH27.

And finally for my pinky we have Catrice I Wear My Sunglasses at Night (two coats). Gorgeous black polish with multi-colored glitters! So much fun! Now this song will be stuck in your head! Muwahahaha! :)

So what did we learned today? That Catrice polishes have totally awesome names! And formulas too! :)

Sat-Art-Day Club: Frogs or Reptiles

So, I missed last week's challenge, but I'm back this week! This is The Sat-Art-Day Club. The Sat-Art-Day Club is a new weekly challenge which posts on Saturdays. Today we have chosen Frogs or Reptiles as our theme, I chose reptiles. I was stumped for a bit on this. I decided to look through my stamping plates and came across these two plates. But then I paused and thought...uh, wait is a turtle a reptile? Hahahaha! Blonde moment of the day! :)

I used China Glaze Westside Warrior for the base of three fingers. Catrice Lost in Mud is the accent nail base. I then stamped using Essie Penny Talk for the shell using Cheeky plate CH11. For my accent nail I used Klean Color Metallic Green and Salon Express SE21 for the little turtle (who decided to stamp off-centered. Grr!) But it still didn't look quite right. Then I decided to add China Glaze Matte Magic and voila! I love how it turned out! It gives it a bit of a leathery look. :)

Oh, and I love how Klean Color Metallic Green is still sparkly even with the Matte Magic!

Here it is before China Glaze Matte Magic. Still pretty but I love it with the Matte Magic better! :)

Oh and PS, I heard so many good things about these Essie Mirror Metallics. Well, this one did not stamped easily. You can see how I had to go over parts on my middle and pinky because the image didn't pick up. But I am not giving up hope yet. I will try this polish again!
