The Lazy Blogger's 31DC: Inspired by Artwork

Inspired by Artwork sometimes is really hard for me. But today's was easy. I have this card framed and hanging on my wall. It's been there going on 7 years. It is a sympathy card from my mother's funereal. And I think it is a gorgeous card.

Sorry this is just a quick iPhone photo of the card, I realized I didn't take a photo of it to show it to you! :)

I used OPI Mermaid's Tears and OPI Stranger Tides for the top and bottom (the card is actually really these colors, just doesn't show it that well in the photo). I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls as the tree limbs and Mermaid's Tears' leaves. I then used microbeads like on the card. I used HK Girl Top Coat to seal it up! :)

I love this mani. It really means a lot to me. It is very tranquil like the card.

The Digit-al Dozen Does It Again: Art

Day 5 of The Digit-al Dozen Does It Again, today is Art! What to do, what to do!? I decided to try my hand and watercolor!

I used Nail Art 101, Rebecca Likes Nails, and Chalkboard Nails as my tutorials. They are all pretty much the same but I like having multiple sources!

I used a ton of polishes in this, ok, not a ton, but a lot! 5! I started out with two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. I then used OPI Fly, China Glaze Budding Romance, China Glaze Make Some Noise, and finally OPI Funky Dunkey. All topped with HK Girl Top Coat.

I want to try this again, maybe with less colors? I don't know. I like it, but don't love it like others that I see. But it was fun to do so I will be doing it again! I love the softness of it!

TGIF: The Digit-al Dozen Does Art: 31 Day Challenge 2013! Day 11: Rainbow Nails

Oh my goodness! I had no idea how I was going to combine all my themes for today! TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indy Indie Friday; The Digit-al Dozen Does Art, and 31 Day Challenge 2013 (relaxed version). So I decided to focus on the Indie polishes themselves since they are a work of art! :) See, see what I did there? Wink wink! ;)

As I was reading a book: How To Be An Explorer of the World: Portable Art Life Museum by Keri Smith, I came across this:
"The Indo-European root of the word 'art' is 'to arrange; or 'fit together' (join). In this light, art can be pared down to its most simplistic form. We begin by collecting, then playing the the materials or objects, organizing them in a variety of ways, making new combinations, trying new things, then observing the arrangements we have made". (Keri Smith, 15)
Bah! Oh my goodness! Does that not describe us all to a "T"? We collect our tens, hundreds, or thousands of bottles of polish. Oh, we definitely play with them and organize them (by color or by brand?) New combos? Why duh! Of course! Trying new things? Yep, daily almost especially with all the nail art challenges. And oh how we "observe the arrangements we have made".....BLOGS! This is why I chose Indies for my art piece today. :)

Oh and there are a lot of photos here...just to warn you! :) Oh and these are each two coats!

First up in the rainbow is red: Elemental Styles Iron Man-ia. This is a gorgeous red jelly with red and gold glitters! Sadly she doesn't carry this polish any more and is just trying to sell her last polishes :( But she still does have some pretties available! Go visit her Elemental Styles Etsy Page

Next color in the rainbow is orange: Glimmer by Erica's Spicy Pumpkin. This is from her fall line and is a clear based glitter with orange, brown, garnet, and red glitters. I love her glitters! So many fun unique combos! Visit her Glimmer by Erica Etsy Page

Next up is yellow: NerdLacquer Gorramit. This is from her Serenity Trio. Wowza are her polishes amazing! Sadly she's been away for a while but has announced plans on returning! Polish crazed ladies rejoice! :)

How about green: Once Upon a Polish The Beanstalk. Sadly another amazing Indie polish maker who has stopped making polishes. I loved her concept and glitters! This is a green glitter in a clear base.

Here's blue: Rainbow Polish Sky Walker. From her Star Set 2 (inspired by Star Wars!) Epic geeky win! This is a "slightly milky blue base containing small blue glitters, blue"lightsaber" glitter bars, white square glitters and small blue dust glitter". Visit her Rainbow Polish Etsy Shop (and this polish is still there!)

On to indigo: A England Tristam is the closest I could get. And it is stunning! Though they are a bit more big-leagued, A England is still and Indie! Visit her shop A England.

And last but not least purple: Dollish Polish Hylian Princess. From her Zelda Duo (another epic geeky win!) This was a huge lemming of mine finally squashed! It is purple, white, and gold glitters in a clear base. Visit her Dollish Polish shop

Big ol' lineup! :)

Backside lineup!

Now, did I cheat a bit for today? Nah, I don't think so! So many talented women create gorgeous works of art for our fingers! We must praise them! And of course give them our money! :)

The Digit-al Dozen Does Art: 31 Day Challenge 2013! Day 10: Metallic Nails

How on earth do I do metallic nails and art theme in one day? So glad I have a stained glass window stamp! Phew! :)

There was no real inspiration for these except stained glass Gothic windows. Though I found these after and thought the colors were close-ish! :)

I used Barry M Gold Foil Effects as my base and then "splodged" on Klean Color Metallic Fuschia, Klean Color Metallic Mango, and Barry M Lilac Foil Effects. I then stamped using Konad Black and Messy Mansion's MM01 plate. I didn't line it up just right and so my tops are a bit lame but I still love them! :)

Here are my "splodged" nails before the stamp. I used a cotton pad to "splodge". :)

The Digit-al Dozen Does Art: 31 Day Challenge 2013! Day 9: Black & White

Welcome to Jackson Pollock day for a lot of the Digit-al Dozen ladies! :) When we all realized that a lot of us were doing a Pollock we decided to schedule them for today! I decided to do a Pollock because it is perfect for Black & White day for the 31 Day Challenge 2013 (relaxed version)!

This is my inspiration. It is called Black and White Polyptych by Jackson Pollock. I couldn't find my information on this piece of work except that it was possibly made in 1950. He is most famous for his "drip paintings". In which he would have the canvas spread out on the floor and would drip, fling, and splatter paint and other foreign matter (sometimes glass).

I used Milani White on The Spot and Wet n' Wild Black Creme. I used a straw to create the splatter and taped off the edges of my fingers so that I didn't have too much clean up! I was really happy with the way my splatter turned out!

The Digit-al Dozen Does Art: 31 Day Challenge 2013! Day 8: Violet Nails

Today's Digit-al Dozen Does Art/ 31 Day Challenge 2013 (relaxed version) Day 8 mani is violet nails! This one had me stumped as to what art piece to use that used violet as a color. So I googled and came up with this image:

This is Purple Posies by Jackie Griswold. This is acrylic on canvas. She is a modern painter that I honestly don't know much about, I just found her image on google. She can be found on Art Blog: here.

I really liked how this turned out. I think it pays homage to the real painting nicely! :) I used Milani White on the Spot as my base and for the white dots. The grass is: Finger Paints Go Van Gogh (bah! I did not intentionally use this one for it's name, just needed a dark green! Win!) and Finger Paints Sexy Sundress. The flowers are: OPI Funky Dunkey (darkest), OPI Planks a Lot (medium), and OPI Steady as She Rose.

I love how fresh this turned out. Very happy and spring like for the winter! Gives hope! :)

The Digit-al Dozen Does Art: 31 Day Challenge 2013! Day 7: Blue Nails

Welcome to a crazy week! It's a new month which means it is time for The Digit-al Dozen and it's challenge as well as continuing the 31 Day Challenge 2013 (relaxed version). Phew! Let me tell you, it was a bit tricky but kind of fun at the same time trying to get everything matched up! Shall we see how I did?

The theme for The Digit-al Dozen this month is Art! I chose this and many of the ladies in the group are a little mad at me for it! :) I say bring on the challenge! I love art and art history so I was excited to do my favorite pieces for you. BUT....then it coincided with the 31 Day Challenge 2013. So I wasn't able to do my favorite pieces but I found some pretty cool pieces of art to show you.

And today's 31 Day Challenge 2013 is Day 7 (as in the 7th day of the month not the challenge, remember we re-worked this for no weekend posts!): Blue Nails. Let's get at it shall we? :)

These are my blue nails that are also inspired by art. I used Catrice Blue Cara Ciao (such a bright and happy blue! Two coats), Nails Inc Hans Place (orange), and Finger Paints Black Expressionism.

So what is this inspired by?

This is Blue II by Joan Miro. Completed 1961 in the Abstract Art style. It is an oil on canvas and currently resides in the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France. Miro is a Spanish artist who is usually associated with the Dada and Surrealist movements.

Now, Abstract art isn't something I usually love but I have this quote that I love and I knew I had to do an abstract piece (helps that it's blue and simple too!).
"The more horrifying this world becomes...the more art becomes abstract; while a world at peace produces realistic art." - Paul Klee
I believe in this quote, just take a look around you today and this quote rings true. Alright, alright. Sorry for my tangent (wasn't really a long one though was it). But I am extremely passionate about art. My favorite era is the Italian Renaissance. :)

Thought this is an abstract piece in our crazy world, there is something calming about this piece.

I hope you liked this as much as I did. Can't wait to show you the other manis this week!
