Halloween Challenge: Recreate a Mani!

Happy Halloween! Today's Halloween Challenge from Crumpet's Nail Tarts is to recreate a mani from this challenge! So I decided to recreate Things That Go Bump In The Night by ourpaintedworld. I really love this mani!

This mani is just super cute and classic Halloween! How could I not recreate it!

Now, it's not perfect (my brush went a little crazy on some of the stitches) but I love it! And so what if my Frankenstein looks a bit more like a green minion than the Frankenstein above. It adds character! :)

I didn't have a bright green so I created my own by applying a coat of  China Glaze Star Board with a coat of Ginger+Liz Ivy League. I like the murky green that it created! I used Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat for the white, Finger Paints Black Expressionism for all the black, and the Zoya Sooki for the mummy eyes.

I hope you have enjoyed this Halloween Challenge. I know I have! And don't forget to check out the others doing the Crumpet's Nail Tarts Halloween Challenge!

Doctor Who Inspired Mani

And cue music: weringgrrgrr BADUMBADUMBADUM Dun Duuun Dun Duun OOOWEEOOOOO OOOWWEEOOOOO WEOOOO OOO DUNN DUNN DUN DUUUN OOOWEOOOO OOO OWEOOOO OOOHH OHHHH DUN DUN DUN WAYOWOOOOOOO

My sister and I have this new obsession. Doctor Who. So, for Halloween I decided to be the Tenth Doctor. (dressed up for Trunk or Treat and will be dressing up tomorrow night too!) and she decided to be the Eleventh Doctor! So of course I had to do our nails! :) Abstractly, of course!

I used Cult Nails Time Traveler as my base on three of my nails. This is one coat and applied wonderfully! I then used Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat to make my Tardis windows and sign. I used IsaDora Bronze Patina for the base of my Dalek accent nail. I then dotted using Essie Good As Gold and then Catrice Browno Mars. Abstract but if you are a Whovian then you will recognize them! :)

These are my sister's nails. She said I couldn't do nail art on her nails because they were too short. I scoffed at her! :) I used Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat (2 coats) on her index and ring finger. To create the bow tie and fez (I wear a fez now, fezzes are cool) I mixed Zoya Sooki and Catrice Lost in Mud. I then used Essie Good As Gold for the tassel. I know, I know. There shouldn't be a tassel but it needed something else. I used Cult Nails Time Traveler as the base for her other nails with Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat for the Tardis.

I really loved how these two manis turned out! So much fun!

Oh? You want to see our costumes? OK! :) **Warning, a bit picture heavy!**

Me, as the Tenth Doctor, my sister as the Eleventh Doctor, and my nephew as the Tardis! Bah! I love it!

Full costume. Sonic screwdriver and all! (Er, how about a flashlight with Bundle Monster stamp plate blue plastic taped over it!). Oh and I am carrying my trench (because he wears a trench coat!)

Um.......yep. This is me trying to be silly and Doctor-like. See first photo with my sister and my goofy smile!

This is my favorite! :)

These are some references for our costumes!

Hair reference and glasses!

And the big goofy grin! :) I hope you enjoyed my little homage to Doctor Who! :)

Depression Awareness Mani - Peaceful Heart

So today I bring you another Depression Awareness Mani. This one is simple but so is the message. This is Klean Color Peaceful Heart over Joe Fresh Moss.

I chose Peaceful Heart because that is what I wish for everyone who has this disease. I wish a peaceful heart, a sense of peace knowing that what you are going through will end. Or as I like to use, there is a light at the top of your deep dark well. This is but a small moment even though it may seem like forever.

I promise you, things will get better. Maybe not right away, but it will. And you have a lot of support through many of us in the nail community and from those around you.

Halloween Challenge and Sat-Art-Day Club: Scary Movie and Halloween

Today is a two for one! For Halloween Challenge from Crumpet's Nail Tarts it is a Scary Movie and for The Sat-Art-Day Club it is Halloween. So I figured my scary movie could be used for Halloween, right? Well, to late! :)

Now, if you have already figured out what the scary movie is then I applaud you and think you are the coolest person ever! This movie is one of the scariest Disney movies of all times. Yep, Disney made a scary movie. Don't know what it is yet?

Yep, The Watcher in the Woods. Freaky movie! And the alternate original ending that you can find on DVD...what the heck! Freaky! :)

So my mani represents the time when the name Karen is written backwards on the window and also the triangle that shows up in broken mirrors and windows. Spooky! I used OPI Skull & Glossbones as my base with Finger Paints Black Expressionism for the writing.

If you haven't seen this movie you need to! :) And just a few more creepy clips! :) Enjoy!

TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indie Friday - Lacquistry Witches Warts

Here is my last Halloween inspired TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indy Indie Friday! This is such a gorgeous glitter! It's my favorite color! And can go with so many different polishes and seasons! Woot! :)

Like always: (l-r) 4 coats (index finger), 3 coats (middle finger), 2 coats (ring finger), and 1 coat (pinky).

Here is the little inspiration post about it on Lacquistry's etsy page:
"Creeping through the woods on a darkened eve, you see through the trees a flickering light. As you get closer you hear the strange and melodic chanting from the hunched figures in pointed hats circling about the fire. A bubbling cauldron hangs over the fire being tended to by a cackling creature. Her back is to you but she stops and suddenly sniffs the air. You duck back behind the tree but you catch a glimpse of her wretched green face covered in warts turning to look at you…
Lacquistry’s Witches Warts is a tribute to the classic witch, with black circle glitters and varying shades of matte and holo greens."
I love the imagery in that! I love this polish!

Here is one coat of Witches Warts over (l-r) OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window, OPI Planks A Lot, OPI Fiercely Fiona, and Essence Romeo. Just look at those glitters! The micro holo glitter just adds the right amount of depth to this polish! I had no issues in applying this polish.

Bottle and macro bottle shot of Lacquistry's Witches Warts.

Jenna over at Lacquistry is a wizard with polishes! If you haven't tried one of her polishes....you need to! :)

Please go over to her Facebook page here to be kept up-to date with her news.
And bookmark her etsy page here so that you can buy her polishes! :)

Halloween Challenge: Gore!

Today's Halloween Challenge from Crumpet's Nail Tarts is Gore! Ew! I am thoroughly disgusted at my mani! But in a good way (for once!) I love it and want to vomit at the same time! :)

To me it looks like torn flesh with the muscle showing through it. And then I did the classic vampire bite with fresh blood oozing out of it! Gross huh!

Yep, three pictures of it. I'm very happy with how it turned out! In this photo you can see the bits of flesh too! Hahaha! For my polishes I used Zoya Sooki (red) and two coats of Zoya Shay (flesh). I also used Finger Paints Black Expressionism (holes) and China Glaze Matte Magic (on the torn flesh).

I was inspired by two different manis. First, for the vampire holes I used Nails by Kayla Shevonne Vampire Bites Tutorial. (awesome, easy to follow tutorial!) And then second I follow Betzie on Instagram and she posted her gory nails and told you how to do them! Please click on Betzie's name and look up her amazing photos! (I didn't want to post her photos as they don't have her name on them and I didn't want people to use them).

Green Ribbon for Depression Awareness

I decided to do another Depression Awareness mani for you. Today's is pretty straight forward. This shows my support. But it also shows that I am a fellow sufferer and a survivor. This is for all of you who are also survivors, and also for those of you who have lost a loved one or know of someone touched by this disease.

I want to thank all of you who read my last Depression Awareness Mani and left me those kind words. Never did I think it would touch so many. I really do love the nail polish community. We are always there to lift one another up even though most of us have never met in person. It gives hope to mankind! (with really awesome nails!) Should be called manikind. Get it? Mani-kind...mankind? Yep, it's late.

I looked up on a calendar that this weekend marks one year since my last major depressive episode began. This episode has been my worst ever. For the first few months I could barely leave my house. Going to work was a struggle. It was one of my darkest times.

But now, a year later, I can stand tall and proud. I made it! And you what? I'm so glad I did.

We are all survivors in our own way.

I was catching up on my reading of my favorite blog: Epbot and came across her post on her anxiety. It is a very moving post and recommend you reading it. She has opened up about her struggles and it is beautifully written. She has titled it: The Enduring Hope of "Someday". She closes her post by saying: "that today's fears won't always be tomorrow's, and that your own "someday" is coming. I promise." And this is so true.

She also created a beautiful inspiration photo.

I agree with this statement 100%. Because you know what? I wouldn't be who I am if I didn't have my depression; and my depression has made me a stronger person. I love this quote, and it can be used for any disease.

Just a quick photo again so I can tell you what I used. :) This is OPI Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow Suede (two coats). The accent nail is Pure Ice Platinum Magic Base Coat. I stamp with A England Dragon using Bundle Monster BM321.

Halloween Challenge: Pumpkins

Today's Halloween Challenge from Crumpet's Nail Tarts is Pumpkins! Love this idea because: 1) simple and fun to create a mani with and 2) pumpkin all the things!

Or pumpkin spice all the things. Yep. I love the fall.

What? Don't believe me?

Yep. What I bought at Wal-mart. Pumpkin everything! So yummy and delicious!

Sorry, I digressed and got distracted by all the yumminess that is fall!

Here's another photo of my pumpkins. I used Klean Color Metallic Mango for the pumpkin with Klean Color Metallic Orange for the shape or veins or whatever the darker part, shape I guess! :) I used Klean Color Coffee Addict for the stem with Finger Paints It Baroque for shading. Shading! That's what it is, not shape or veins. Derp. Too much pumpkin in the system! :)

Halloween 2012 Spooktacular Swap!!!

So, I belong to a group where we did a Halloween swap using Elfster (amazing site for secret santas and wishlists). And this is what I got! Sorry, not best photos but I couldn't wait long enough to get better lighting! I'm sure you understand! :)

So my amazingly awesome fantastic spooktacular gift giver was Amy from Atlcatsmeow! Go and like her Facebook page here and follow her on Instagram with @atlcatsmeow and see her nails on Instagram here!

So above, is everything all wrapped and mysterious! I got a huge Halloween sign that says: Trick or Treat Smell My Feet on one side Psycho Path Boolvd on the other! I also got a beautiful big glittery purple owl, a flashing Halloween necklace, pens and pencil, Bath and Body Works Leaves candle (my fav!) and Owl car freshener (also from Bath and Body Works, and also Leaves!). I also got some candy! Yummy (and all gone now!). If you look closely you can see the tissue paper has owls on it as does the wrapping paper! Win!

It's an owlpalooza!!!

Here's all the stuff that was wrapped up. A gorgeous bag (which matched the wrapping paper exactly!), four amazing polishes (closer picture below), some nail polish remover pads (love these things!), an owl coozie, owl mirror, stunning owl necklace, gorgeous owl ring (between the coozie and necklace), and a buffing block.

Here are my nail related items. A England Galahad. I've seen so many gorgeous manis using this polish. I am so excited! Rainbow Polish Monarch, which I just used for my last TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indie Friday. Next up is my first Pumpkin Polish in Glow-in-the-Dark! Woot woot! It's glittery too! And the last polish is Klean Color Coffee Addict! Such a gorgeous brown! Also shown is nail polish remover pads and buffing block.

Another shot of all the fun extras I got! I love it all!

Here is a close up of my necklace (which opens up) and my ring! Aren't they beautiful! Love! Oh, and this awesome green ring box was not in my swap. I just needed to use something that would hold up my ring to show you it! :)

Thank you so much! I love it all!

Sat-Art-Day Club: Frogs or Reptiles

So, I missed last week's challenge, but I'm back this week! This is The Sat-Art-Day Club. The Sat-Art-Day Club is a new weekly challenge which posts on Saturdays. Today we have chosen Frogs or Reptiles as our theme, I chose reptiles. I was stumped for a bit on this. I decided to look through my stamping plates and came across these two plates. But then I paused and thought...uh, wait is a turtle a reptile? Hahahaha! Blonde moment of the day! :)

I used China Glaze Westside Warrior for the base of three fingers. Catrice Lost in Mud is the accent nail base. I then stamped using Essie Penny Talk for the shell using Cheeky plate CH11. For my accent nail I used Klean Color Metallic Green and Salon Express SE21 for the little turtle (who decided to stamp off-centered. Grr!) But it still didn't look quite right. Then I decided to add China Glaze Matte Magic and voila! I love how it turned out! It gives it a bit of a leathery look. :)

Oh, and I love how Klean Color Metallic Green is still sparkly even with the Matte Magic!

Here it is before China Glaze Matte Magic. Still pretty but I love it with the Matte Magic better! :)

Oh and PS, I heard so many good things about these Essie Mirror Metallics. Well, this one did not stamped easily. You can see how I had to go over parts on my middle and pinky because the image didn't pick up. But I am not giving up hope yet. I will try this polish again!

Don't forget to check out the other ladies and their frogs or reptiles!

TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indie Friday - Rainbow Polish Monarch

Guess what day it is? Yep, TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indy Indie Friday! And today we have one of my newest Indie polishes to look at! This is Monarch by Rainbow Polish. I got this lovely polish from Amy in my Halloween Swap group. And I think this is a perfect Halloween polish! Don't you?

Like always: (l-r) 4 coats (index finger), 3 coats (middle finger), 2 coats (ring finger), and 1 coat (pinky). This polish was a breeze to apply. No real glitter problems that I'm aware of! The inspiration was a monarch butterfly which I think she hit it spot on! It's just gorgeous!

Here I have created a skittle of 1 coat of Monarch over (l-r) Essence Let's Get Lost, OPI Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh, OPI Planks a Lot, and China Glaze Starboard. It looks stunning over each color! But I think I am loving it over OPI Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh!

Here it is over Finger Paints Black Expressionism. Such a perfect Halloween mani! :)

Bottle shot and macro bottle shot of Rainbow Polish Monarch. Stunning!

Rainbow Polish can be found and bought on her etsy page
Rainbow Polish also has a big cartel store here
