Hey all you Geeky Owl readers! 


I'm am really excited to be here! My name is Stephanie and I have a little Canadian nail art blog called Sincerely Stephanie. Kirsten posts some awesome nail art and I really love her Teal Tuesdays so I tried to incorporate that into this post! ( I ended up with more of a blue than a teal, but I tried lol!) 

To get this triangle geometric look I started off with two coats of China Glaze Make Some Noise. This is a redy orange from the 2012 Electopop collection. Once that had dried I took a striping brush and China Glaze For Audrey and created two triangles Then I grabbed Wet n Wild Silvivor and added the silver lines along the barrier between For Audrey and Make Some Noise. I added the white diamond in the middle and then the black lines outlining the diamond. I was planning on leaving it just like that, but it needed a little more pizzaz so I grabbed a square rhinestone and placed it in the middle of the diamond. One coat of NYC In a Minute Top Coat and I was good to go! 

These nails were something that was born out of nothing. I knew that I wanted to use Make Some Noise so I put on some awesome 90's music and bounced along to some great oldies and created these nails. Do you ever just create a manicure out of nothing? Just start painting and end up somewhere? 

Geometric patterns are one of my favourite patterns to create! All they need are a few lines and the possibilities are seriously endless! Do you like geometric patterns? What do you think of the look I created?

Guest Post by Mommy Does Her Nails

Hi owlets! Geeky Owl flew the tree and left this mommy with a post *insert evil laugh*. Well mostly evil since I didn't actually do an evil inspired manicure but now that I think about it that would have been awesome. Beauty of hindsight right? So what I have here is an accent manicure with some stamping:

I ordered the Zoya Pinterest mini trio of Myrta (accent), Zuza (other two fingers) and Kimber (not pictured). I stamped Myrta with Sally Hansen White On and the other two with Sally Hansen Green Envy. Bright and summery :)

These have so much shimmer in them! So how did the Zoya minis compare to the full size?

Ah! There's Kimber - pictured next to Jancyn for size. Basically it's half the size, but the cap is identical. Then there's the brush:

Identical with a shorter neck! Personally I love Zoya and I really hope to see more mini sets in the future. They are the best minis I have ever seen and really made me want every single color in a mini version. They are PERFECT travel size and should I go through one I will be keeping it for my travel polish bottle.

NOTD: Stick Figure Band Mani!

Here is one of the things that I love to draw: a Stick Figure Band! In high school I once drew a full page of a Stick Figure Band that had about 10-15 different individual people! (yep, no life!). I decided to draw one on my yellow/pea/spring green comparison that I did the other day.

Zoya Mitzi (thumb), Essence Lime Up! (index), China Glaze Electric Pineapple (middle), OPI Did It On 'Em (ring), and OPI Fiercely Fiona (pinkie finger). I used a normal fine point black Sharpie to draw them on. :)

On my thumb is the drummer, my index is the guitar player, the singer is on my middle finger, the tambourine player is on my ring finger, with the groupie girl on my pinkie! :)

I love it! I hope you do to!

So I wanted to leave my Stick Figure Band on for a few days but I can't draw with my left hand. So, it got one coat of Essence Lime Up! and one coat of Sation Videogame Vixen. Videogame Vixen is a lovely glitter of silver and black micro glitter and larger silver and black glitters!

And now my fellow readers, I am going on a two and a half week vacation! Woot! Woot! So, sadly no posts done by me during that time. :'(

But wait! I have had 14 (because my posts are only monday-friday) wonderfully amazingly talented ladies that have agreed to create some amazingly stunning guest posts for me! Yep, that's right! You get to meet 14 amazing ladies, some you may know and some you may not. But you get to know them through here and can follow each of them on their own blogs! :)

TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indie Friday - Sparkles by Julie Water Lily

Welcome this week's episode of TGIF: Thank Goodness, Indy Indie Friday! Today I'm featuring one of my newest Indie polishes: Water Lily by Sparkles by Julie.

This is such a unique polish in my collection! This is a white polish with a gold shimmer packed with amazing glitters in gold, holographic, black and a smattering of blue! This is two coats.

Here it is with only one coat. Almost opaque. The application was very nice! The larger black glitter didn't apply to each nail but there isn't too many of it in the bottle and is more of a sporadic glitter. But I love it!

This is two coats again. Just look at this polish! Look at that gold shimmer on my middle finger! This is stunning!

Dupes? Zoya Mitzi, Essence Lime Up, China Glaze Electric Pineapple, OPI Did It On 'Em, and OPI Fiercely Fiona

Today I am comparing 5 polishes! While swatching I realized I have a few bottle of the weird yellow/pea/spring green. (l-r) Zoya Mitzi, Essence Lime Up!, China Glaze Electric Pineapple, OPI Did It On 'Em, and OPI Fiercely Fiona.

This is one coat each of the five polishes. Starting with my thumb then to my index finger and down: (l-r) Zoya Mitzi, Essence Lime Up!, China Glaze Electric Pineapple, OPI Did It On 'Em, and OPI Fiercely Fiona.

As you can see, Zoya Mitzi (thumb) has some drag marks which is normal for a matte polish and only one coat. Essence Lime Up! (index finger) is the most opaque with one coat with China Glaze Electric Pineapple (middle finger) being the next opaque but had a bit of a dragging issue. OPI Did It On 'Em (ring finger) looks a little bit like a jelly but really isn't.

This is two coats of each polish. Zoya Mitzi (thumb), Essence Lime Up! (index), China Glaze Electric Pineapple (middle), OPI Did It On 'Em (ring), and OPI Fiercely Fiona (pinkie finger). With two coats you can get a better show of their colors. China Glaze Electric Pineapple (middle) and OPI Fiercely Fiona (pinkie) have more yellow to them.

Essence Lime Up! (index), is not completely opaque. There are still a few drag marks on Zoya Mitzi. And you can still see the drag marks on China Glaze Electric Pineapple.

Three coats of each now. Zoya Mitzi (thumb), Essence Lime Up! (index), China Glaze Electric Pineapple (middle), OPI Did It On 'Em (ring), and OPI Fiercely Fiona (pinkie finger). Sorry that it is a bit blurry, was starting to loose the light! >_<

All polishes are now completely opaque and China Glaze Electric Pineapple (middle) and OPI Fiercely Fiona (pinkie) are definitely more yellow with OPI Fiercely Fiona the most yellow. Zoya Mitzi looks like Essence Lime Up! mattified. (d'oh! why didn't I try to matte the Essence polish!)

Are they dupes? I wouldn't really say that. I would say that all 5 polishes are different colors but would you need all 5? Well, that depends on your level of polish a-holic-ism! ;) Hahahaha!

I love this color and am glad that I have all 5! :) And just to show you how much I like this color:

Wednesday Reads - The House of Night

Welcome to another installment of Wednesday reads. Today I am featuring another series and not just a single book. The series is The House of Night by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast.

Mother and daughter team up to write a series on vampyres at a sort of vampyre finishing school. In this series, a teenager is "marked" as a vampyre and become a fledglings. They are then taken to a House of Night where they learn all about vampyres and their way of life as they wait to make the full Change to a full-fledged vampyre. But not all make it and some die.

This series centers on Zoey Redbird and her friends. Zoey is a special fledgling and has been given affinities for all five elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit. With her friends by her side she discovers that some vampyres have been misusing their special powers given to them by their Goddess Nyx.

I really like this series a lot, even better than the Twilight series! :) The characters have depth and connection. It is a pretty clean book, but there are cuss words and a few sexual scenes that push the limits of what I like to read. But I still do like these books. Now, I feel I need to warn you that there is a lot of talk about their Goddess Nyx and they do spells and rituals. If you are not comfortable with that then I would recommend you not reading this series.

What I love about this series is it is currently at nine books!

These are the first 8 books.

Destined is the 9th book in the series and I thought it was done. I mean the way it ends you expect more but way later like in a few years, BUT I found something while looking up the pictures for the books.

Hidden, the 10th book in the series comes out in October! I'm so excited! :) I love series and how you can be with the same characters the whole time! :)

There are also two published novellas and one soon to be released. These are about three of the professors at The House of Night and give some background on them.

There is also a fledgling handbook that gives you information all the information a new fledglings would need to know about vampyre history, rituals, biology and on making the Change to a full-fledged vampyre.

Teal Tuesdays - Half Moon!

Today's tealicure is the Half-Moon! Don't you love our new fancy logo! Thank you Missy at Gnarly Gnails! So, I'm not going to lie, but I wasn't too thrilled at this being chosen as the tealicure this week. I've never loved this type of mani before. But I bucked up and decided to give it a whirl!

Not the best mind you, but gosh darn it it's pretty good for a first try! :) I used Essence Romeo from the Nail Art Twins as my base and then applied Essence Bella over top! I used these two colors because they are both wonder one-coat no fail cremes! I love them a ton! And look how super shiny they are too! This is no top coat!

Now, my half-moons aren't super half-moony. But that could be because I didn't really use super circular stickers to create the effect. I know a lot of people use reinforcements (school supplies) but I didn't have any! Would you like to see what I used instead? I was running out of time to do this mani and had to come up with something quick.

Hahahaha! Flower stickers! And gasp! Please excuse the horrible paint job (obviously this is pre-clean up) but I was trying to get the polish to go all the way on each side of the sticker and it kinda got on the sides of my nails/fingers. Hence why there is some teal stainage in the top picture. Teal is horrible for staining!

It's not a perfect half-moon but you know what I am ok with that! And you know what? After having this on for a while, I kinda started to actually like this trend! I may have to try it again! :)

Teal Tuesdays was started because teal is unloved and needed its own day of celebration!
Teal is a medium to dark bluish green color of low saturation; a dark cyan.
Open to interpretation, anything green with a hint of blue or blue with a hint of green is welcome here!
Aqua, Turquoise,Tiffany Blue, etc etc...all are welcome - we do not discriminate!
